This model itinerary will satisfy those who like to shop local produce while enjoying the splendid views from above the 1015 stone steps of Yamadera, encountering the nature through Mogami River boat riding and visiting historical monuments such as Kajo Koen and Bunsyokan.

A souvenir shop located at the bottom of Mount Zao in Yamagata. Locally produced fruit, local sake, Yonezawa beef are just some of the specialities.

Zao Hot Springs Resort
A popular hot spring resort in Tohoku. The resort has various local specialty shops that sell Chuka Soba, Igamochi and folk toys such as the traditional Kokeshi, and local sake. The Zao Ropeway will take you to the summit. Each season provides beautiful scenery, and in the summer the resort is popular with trekking, and in the winter it becomes a winter sports paradise.

Yamadera (Risshakuji)
Yamadera is a Tendaishu sect temple located in Yamagata Prefecture, and has many buildings such as the Konpon-chu-do, a hall in the complex, which was designated an Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government, and a monument to a Buddhist sutra called Tenyo Gannen Nyohou Kyoshohi. The view that can be enjoyed from the top of the stone staircase of 1,015 steps is outstanding. Between the Yamadera Station and the Sanmon entrance of the temple is a Monzenmachi shopping street, where visitors are able to enjoy various confectionaries of Yamadera such as Morokoshi, the special cherry & pear icecreams, Chikara Konnyaku 9tama Konnyaku) and also try eating the Dashi Soba, Meat Soba and Stewed Potatos that are special dishes from Yamagata.

Handmade Soba Botamochi Mitoya
Handmade Soba shop located near Yamadera Station. Specialties are the seasonal dishes and soba and botamochi from Yamagata.

Yamagata Marugoto Beninokura
The Beninokura offers agricultural produce, and vegetables, and regional specialties of Yamagata such as confectionaries, and also original goods for Beninokura. Restaurants that offer local dishes that use local produce are also popular. In the information center, tourist information on Yamagata can also be obtained.

Bunsyokan
A historic brick building that represents the western architecture from the Taisho era. Designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The attractive building is free to look around. Guide volunteers are available when required.

Kajo Koen (Yamagata Castle Ruins)
Built on the remains of Yamagata castle. Famous for the beautiful cherry blossoms in spring with 1500 cherry trees planted in the grounds. During the cherry blossom season the ground is lit up during the night. Ninomaru Higashi Otemon is also a famous tourist attraction. Also located in the park are Yamagata Museum and the Mogami Yoshiaki Historic Museum.

Ginzan Onsen
A traditional and atmospheric hot spring resort. Known as the famous hot spring from Dewa, its quaint and stately appearance is also very attractive. Visitors are treated to various souvenirs and local sake. There are also walking courses that have beautiful scenery of waterfalls.

Mogami River Boat Ride
A boat ride for visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery while riding a boat down the Mogami River, a river that famous figures like Matsuo Basho and Minamoto No Yoshitsune once crossed.
