Mojiko Retro: Kaikyo Plaza (Shopping Complex facing Mojiko Port)
Kaikyo Plaza is located in the center of Mojiko Retro and has a view of the historic buildings and the sea. There are various shops and restaurants that offer attractive experiences and an amusement corner which has a Trick Art 3D Museum.

Kyushu Tetsudo Kinenkan (Railway History Museum)
Visitors can enjoy the actual vehicles from the past and the exhibition of railway history. There is also a chance to experience a mini railway and driving simulator.

Mojiko Kanko Ressha (Scenic Train): Shiokaze-go
This trolley train running along the 2.1 km stretch between Mojiko Retro Area and Mekari Shrine facing the Kanmon Strait was previously a cargo train used to carry cement. This line was renovated for the tourism industry in 2009 and its unique feature is that “it runs the shortest distance in Japan at the slowest speed in Japan”.

Mekari Shrine
A shrine that is located in the utmost north of Kyushu. It has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by Fukuoka prefecture, and is famous for the “Mekari Shinji” a ritual where Wakame seaweed is cut from the ocean and offered to an altar on the first day of the New Year according to the old lunar calendar. The view looking above at the Kanmon bridge and the dynamic flow of the Kanmon Strait is spectacular to watch. It is popular as a photo spot where with luck you can get the hanging lantern, the Torii and the passing ship all in one camera shot.
(In the shrine’s Shinto ritual called Mekari Shinji,[1] wakame seaweed is cut from the ocean at low tide and offered to an altar in a ceremony conducted in the early morning hours of the first day of the New Year according to the old lunar calendar. The ritual is thought to bring about good luck and has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by Fukuoka prefecture.)

River Walk Kitakyushu (Amusement Park)
A large-scale complex that has a cinema and a museum. Since it is located near the Kokura Castle and Kokura Joshu Teien (Castle Garden), visitors can enjoy sight-seeing, shopping and dining at your leisure.

Taniga Ichiba (Market)
It is also called the “People’s Kitchen” and is always full of seasonal fresh local ingredients. The traditional shop appearance is popular among the locals and also the tourists. The “Daigaku-don” where just buy the rice, and then add the fresh ingredients you buy on the spot from the market is a highly popular menu.

Itozu no Mori Koen (Zoological Park)
A lush green park that is hard to believe it is in the middle of a city. A true “forest”. Visitors can see about 100 types of animals, and can also experience feeding elephants and goats. Full of interesting events such as night-time opening, firework display and seasonal events.

Inochi-no-tabi Museum (Kitakushu Museum of Natural History and Human History
The largest natural history and human history museum in west Japan. It exhibits and explains the evolution of life and the history of humans on a grand scale. The display of the dinosaur skeletons are impressive.
