The History of Food of Osaka

Visitors can fully enjoy the old and new popular tourist spots such as Osaka Castle and Abeno Harukas, experience making food samples at Sennichi-mae Doguya-suji shopping center and come in touch with Osaka food culture at Kuromon Market. This is a tourist course permitting the visitors to enjoy food and history of Osaka.

Introduction to Spots
Osaka Castle Tower
Construction of Osaka Castle started by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a Daimyo warrior, in 1583 was completed after two years. After that, the castle was burned twice due to the Summer Battle of Osaka (1615) and thunderbolt, and then reconstructed in 1931. There is a museum in the castle to exhibit historic materials. Visitors can command a panoramic view of Osaka from the viewing platform on the 8th floor.
The turret is now specially opened to the public from January 9 to June 5
(scheduled), 2016.

Osaka-jo Gozabune (Osaka Castle Treasure Boat)
The treasure boat cruises on the inner moat of the castle within about 20 minutes. It is a good chance to see the castle tower from the inner moat. You can enjoy such a sightseeing on “Golden Boat, Osaka-jo Gozabune” as if you were the ruler!

Sennichi-mae Doguya-suji Shopping Mall
Doguya-suji is a mall with a number of specialty shops of cooking or kitchen tools and equipment and sells all kinds of such things for restaurants. You can enjoy demonstration sale of Takoyaki (octopus dumplings) and experience food sample making.

Kuromon Ichiba (Koromon Market)
The market has been a kitchen of “Naniwakko” (natural-born Osaka citizen) since late Edo period. There are various shops selling fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, clothing and so on and restaurants. They are crowded with about 18,000 of shoppers on ordinary days, about 50,000 on year’s end.

Abeno Kyuzu Mall (Abeno QS Mall)
A popular shopping mall boasting the largest shop space in Osaka prefecture. It has big stores such as “Tokyu Hands”, “Uniqlo”, “SHIBUYA 109 ABENO” and “ABC Craft” and about 250 shops.
